We cannot politicize our values — they are not right, left, or center.
They are simply our values. The question is how we live them out, especially when they come into tension with institutions, parties, and people in power.
The recent ICE shootings should give every American pause — regardless of political affiliation.
Those entrusted to enforce the law must always be held to the highest standards of restraint, accountability, and respect for human life. The rule of law must protect the public, not erode public trust.
This is not about rhetoric.
It is about human dignity, constitutional responsibility, and moral seriousness.
So how do we respond?
It begins at home. It begins in our personal conduct — in how we treat others, in how we pursue justice, and in how firmly we insist on lawful and ethical behavior.
It also requires our institutions — including each branch of government — to faithfully uphold their Constitutional obligations.
Buddha taught that suffering exists in the world.
Christianity teaches that sin exists in the world.
Both remind us that we must confront reality with humility, truth, and resolve — not denial, outrage, or division.
We should seek truth, demand accountability, and uphold the sanctity of human life — even when doing so is difficult, inconvenient, or politically uncomfortable.
If we abandon our shared values, we weaken the very foundation of our nation.
